alright. going to be explaining the differences between whump and pro shipping because i’m being asked to elaborate. i saw someone claim that liking whump is the equivalent of being a pro shipper and you could not be more wrong.
whump is a huge umbrella term for many different categories of angst. proshipping is supporting/romanticizing ships that are pedophilic, incest, and abusive. within the whump community and through whump writing, it is clearly stated and made clear that — if a writer is writing about illegal relationships like that — that it is wrong. it’s not treated as something that’s to be glorified. proshippers view these sorts of “ships” as romantic, where whump writers mainly would focus on the power imbalance or the trauma caused due to it.
obviously, whump writers never condone what we write. saying something like “i like scenes where characters are hurt in tv shows because it’s angsty and i like the comfort that follows” is nowhere NEAR comparable to being a pro shipper who actively seeks out and supports “ships” that are illegal.

Proship darkfic writers don’t “condone” the things that happen in the fic they write any more than whup writers do.
