Something about the way that antis insist that certain things can only be portrayed in fiction if it’s done The Right Way… I mean, where’s their creativity? Why does something have to be portrayed as bad just because it would be in real life? I like fiction because it’s not real life. I swear it’s like it doesn’t even occur to them that certain things don’t have to work the same way they would in real life. Like, if something is Bad in real life, it’s unquestionable fact that it’s Bad in a fictional work, even if the fictional work says that it’s fine in-universe and nothing in-universe goes against that. And then there’s the fact that what they consider to be The Right Way to portray Bad Stuff is too narrow. I’m pretty sure my own lived experience would be considered a bad portrayal if it were fiction, and honestly? Even though what I experienced wasn’t perfect, fictional works with the same type of situation that treat it as 100% percent fine and good are far more relatable to me than “The Right Way”. It sometimes hurts knowing there’s a decent chunk of people who would consider me to be a bad person (and whatever they might do due to that…) just because I appreciate the existence of fiction that reflects my own experience. (Apologies if this is a lot—The stuff that that “whump ≠ pro shipping” person just reminded me of feelings I already had about this kind of thing.)
