Also, what’s the diffrence betwen a dress shirt and button up/down? Is it just the formality of it?

A “dress shirt” is generally made of a fancier (or at least smoother) material and is something agreed to be appropriate to wear with a suit jacket.

“button up” can include “dress shirts” but also includes shirts of heavier and more woollen materials that you wouldn’t wear a suit jacket with– generally flannel shirts, which are often plaid patterned.
