Do antis understand that if Fiction As Moral Lessons got normalised in the minds of society, any story failing to do that – or outright trying to subvert it – would be argued to be a Bad Influence which can’t be allowed? And possibly for an audience used to stories being paedagogical, this argument could even be true. After all, “wholesome” stories don’t exactly train your critical thinking skills. Bad lessons – and outright propaganda – will easily slip through if you think you are safe internalising everything you are being shown. It’ll just strengthen the effect morally ambiguous/dubious fiction has on reality.
The ones who haven’t thought about it don’t understand it.
The ones who have thought about it and understand it desire that outcome for the purposes of controlling people.
