Fandoms surrounding “pure” and “wholesome” media franchises are filled with some of the nastiest, most vile people you will ever meet in this life And I think a lot of the time they use their Good Media as a way to deflect from how shitty they are as people. They view WHAT art you engage with as an indictment on your character, not HOW you engage with it. I think a lot of fancops seem to think they want wholesome media, when really all they want is popularity and control, or to consume media that reflects their moral purity So they flock to “wholesome” media, then tear the fandom apart for tiny “slights” for lack of more obvious targets They are a culturally deletive force. When your raison d’etre is to control the creation and consumption of media, there’s no such thing as passive media consumption. Antis HAVE to tear apart SOMETHING, or they lose all relevancy and, more pointedly, authority Kid’s shows about core values (“be nice to others!”) make great nests for antis because they project innocence and purity—traits sought by antis both as validation and protection. They also provide large swathes of lonely teens desperate for validation and an outlet for their anger
