Thank you so much for your villain post. I’m sorry some antis are clowning on it. A while back I took a creative writing course and I got in serious trouble for writing a complex story about a villain that wasn’t so one sided. It explored the villain’s rise to power and the abusive system that put him there. The hero was actually his long lost son and together they broke the cycle of abuse and in the end he was redeemed. My teacher chastised me for daring to write a story where the villain does bad things and still finds the light at the end of his life. My teacher even contacted my parents and recommended they find me counseling because he thought this behavior was “suspicious”. It was very traumatizing and I’ve been scared to write honestly ever since.
Anon, I’m so sorry you went through that, that sounds awful and I hate that there are teachers like that out there. I hope that you can find the space and time to heal from the ways it hurt you.
