Well, this was supposed to be a May the Fourth post, but I have just learned about Glimmerglanger deleting all of their works due to harassment, unsolicited criticism, and general cruelty from the fandom they gave so much to. I am heartbroken, I actually feel physically ill, and am actively grieving several much loved comfort stories.
I wish I could say that this is shocking, though. That this behavior does not represent the Star Wars fandom, but I think we all know that is not true. For decades this fandom has turned creatives into people who find no joy in their work. Antis are no different from the people who tormented Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best, they just feel they have the moral high ground.
Let this be a moment of not only grief, but positivity. If you love a story, let the author know. Don’t just keep your conversations in dms or private discord servers- comment on fics and art where creators can see. Fandoms are dying, because of the very same behavior that has driven Glimmerglanger to this surely painful choice. I know it would break my heart to feel like I had no other choice but to remove my stories from the Archive.
