I do understand why the whole “BOYxBOY Yaoi don’t like don’t read!” stuff seems really funny now but I think, as someone who joined fandom in the early 2000s when by and large most of fandom was incredibly homophobic and would flame you for posting slash stories on ff.net, and slash and femmeslash were often treated as inherently too adult for general fic archives, and if you made slash fanart or fic you were ‘ruining’ a perfectly good character, and was myself harassed as a teen for posting slash stories without this disclaimer because I was annoyed anything gay needed to be ‘warned’ for…. well I think that it’s just something modern fandom folk do not understand and you just had to be there for lol.
I remember people being harassed for homosexual ships but fandoms got weird about gay ships again, it’s just the other way around.
In 2010′s I was being harassed for shipping two men, because the ship was gay. Now I can get harassed for shipping two men because I ship then “the wrong way”, or because I prefer them over the other gay ship, or because I ship them without being a gay man myself (then they’ll call me a “fujoshi”). Yayyyy.
