💘 It’s okay to write about toxic, unhealthy and illegal relationships in fiction.
💘 There is nothing wrong with enjoying toxic, unhealthy, or illegal relationships in fiction.
💘 Its okay even if someone accuses you of ‘romanticizing’ or ‘glorifying’ toxic, unhealthy or illegal relationships in fiction.
💘 The relationships you enjoy in fiction don’t reflect on your real life desires or your real life morals.
💘 It’s okay to enjoy toxic, unhealthy, or illegal relationships in fiction because it is fiction and not real.
If you can’t distinguish between fiction and reality that is your problem
Like. I am an avid Warhammer 40k fan. I love me a good old Space Marine protagonist. I used to run a White Scars RP account.
The Imperium of Man is a fascist theocratic hellhole festering from end to end that is better off dead, which kills its own citizens for less than thoughtcrime. It has a secret police worse than anything we can comprehend. The Space Marines themselves take twelve year old children and put them into trials that have a casualty rate of iirc 60+%. Everyone in the Imperium is the most xenophobic piece of shit imaginable.
I recognize and know all of this, and more; yet I happily read and write about 40k. I’m able to recognize that 40k is fictional. I am able to recognize that fascism in the real world is bad. I am able to recognize fascism growing in the real world and react accordingly. That is because the fiction I enjoy doesn’t reflect my values like a fucking mirror
