I mean, I know attacking canon het love interests that get in the way of popular gay ships is just par for the course at this point, but it never stops being disappointing to see.
I has a long and storied– and awful– history in fandom.
Honestly people even do the same thing with canon love interests that are male when they get in the way of a different het ship they like.
but it just feels especially toxic when the female love interest gets turned into a huge bitch for the sake of a queer ship. Like, c’mon. There are lots of ways to get her out of the way.
The best way to get the canon female love interest out of the way is to not get her out of the way.
Reject monogamy, embrace polyamory.
