i think u should be able to headcanon a relationship without shipping it. Like if we define shipping as “enjoying stories involving this pairing” you wouldn’t read fic of it or seek out fanart of it (but might enjoy it if you see it regardless) but it’s still canon to you that they’re in a relationship. It’s a headcanon, not a ship.
This gets down to the question of “what does shipping even mean” again.
Does it mean that you actively want to see them in a relationship?
Or does believing that the relationship exists at all count as shipping it?
