Fandom Problem #4059

when people caught on that demonizing the female love interest for the sake of their precious m/m ship was misogynistic, it became the new thing to say "actually i just think she's TOO GOOD for him ;) She could be lesbian, even!" and then carry on doing their best to erase her entire presence anyways.ALT

Fandom Problem #4059

when people caught on that demonizing the female love interest for the sake of their precious m/m ship was misogynistic, it became the new thing to say “actually i just think she’s TOO GOOD for him 😉 She could be lesbian, even!” and then carry on doing their best to erase her entire presence anyways.

Here’s the thing.

People demonizing canonical female love interests sucks, and is often bad writing.

But people do the same thing with M/F ships where they want to ship the girl with another man. Just look at how the Phantom of the Opera Phandom treats poor Raul historically. He even gets hit with it in the canonical (to the musical) sequel!

Slash fic fans ignoring or sidelining female characters they’re not interested in rather than having them act as out of character antagonists is way better, and is in fact the best you can reasonably ask for, for one simple reason.

You cannot compel fan writers, who are not being paid and who write merely for pleasure, to write about characters that they are uninterested in.
