Look, I’m going to be honest, I don’t care whether people feeding other fans’ fanfiction into AI is “legal” or “illegal”.

What it is, is rude, entitled, and disrespectful of your fellow fans.

From what I’ve seen (and experienced shouted at me), the pro-AI folks just pivot to talking about legality and copyright as soon as you say the word “steal.” Which is why I’m glad someone took apart their shitty argument. But otherwise, yeah, obviously legality is kinda irrelevant to most of us.

It is a matter of respect. If you are ripping off someone’s work to feed into an AI machine, you are disrespecting that person’s time, their creativity, their effort, their skill.

You are also disrespecting our fandom community by reducing people to a content commodity that can be regurgitated into a shitty subpar output.

Because the minute you feed our art into a fucking corporate bot, it ceases to be a creative community talking about our interests and expressing them through creation, both making and enjoying. You have reduced our value to just an output. And that is bleak.
