Look, I’m going to be honest, I don’t care whether people feeding other fans’ fanfiction into AI is “legal” or “illegal”.
What it is, is rude, entitled, and disrespectful of your fellow fans.
this this this. i have yet to see a single legal argument that gets all the complicated moving parts right. but they really don’t matter because nobody has the money to burn to file a lawsuit over this.
but destroying the social contract of fandom is a real and tangible harm.
