Until AO3 came along, no multifandom archive had ever really come close to the size or popularity of FFN, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t other multifandom archives or that they were all small. There are or have been a number with tens of thousands of fics, just not millions.
Media Miner (MM, MM.org) is an archive a lot of us in anime fandom fled to when Fanfiction.net banned porn. It was pretty hot in the early-mid 00’s. I drifted away from MM when I left mailing lists and got active on Livejournal. In recent years, I hear its mods have disappeared, taking key passwords and things with them. It has suffered many technical problems, and users even suggested AO3 adopt it via Open Doors. (Sadly, that’s not possible unless the site owner approaches OTW, though I also see a notice that MM has moved servers, so perhaps it’s doing better again.) Currently, based on the index page, MediaMiner hosts 92,350 fics. There is a separate fan art section with 16616 pieces listed.
