you understand that all the origin characters in bg3 are in text disabled aside from lae’zel you understand that right
Wyll has a prosthetic eye, which changes how he sees and interacts with the world and is especially an interest in any activities like sports or. fighting. His character model shows how the skin around his eye socket is degrading faster than his good eye. Based on his past with his father in childhood as well as his being cast out and manipulated I do not think it would be a stretch to assume he has cptsd, or something else in similar veins. Well adjusted people do not consistently try to run from and ignore their issues.
Gale has chronic pain. He has his own unique animation and voice lines for when it is affecting him to the point of being unable to hide it. He talks about it in the same way you talk about a terminal illness. It is going to get worse. He is going to die.
Shadowheart also has chronic pain in her wound that Shar inflicts aches upon, as well as memory loss. Which is something incredibly stressful and taxing to deal with because there is so much you just Do Not Know. And getting up and fighting in spite of a consistently hurting hand is a Feat.
Karlach explicitly has a heart that is slowly destroying her and will kill her. It burns her and people around her. I’m not sure if she mentions that it hurts, but I would assume it does. Constant burning pains are easier to get used to and brush off than you realize, because its just normal. She also knows that it will only get worse. That she is on a time limit. She is going to die, or endure fates that may be arguably worse than that.
Astarion has ptsd, even having a debuff for it while in Cazador’s mansion. There is a gifset with closeups of all their eyes and you can see Astarion’s eyes naturally scanning for microexpressions (which Wylls does as well, i noticed, just a little more subtle)
The Dark Urge character, regardless of how they are played, has constamt migraines and sleep issues and has Literal Holes In Their Brain That Cause Them Pain. It would not be a stretch to infer any number of neurological issues caused by this, at your personal discretion. The entire concept of the Urge is also heavily mirroring the experiences of bpd and the frequent distress and turmoil that comes with it.
“its not realistic to have disabled characters in fantasy” you already DO. youre just afraid of people with disabilities that you cannot ignore by looking at them. Youre afraid of characters looking disabled.
And i can guarantee *most* (astarion was) of these characters were not written by Larian with the experience of actual disabled people in mind. Ironically, if they were, I feel like they would not work as well. Because they are written like people who have a larger struggle. Which is all disbilities are, but so many writers, and people in general, don’t see that and end up playing into internal biases and/or playing it safe to the point of being lifeless. Maybe without even realizing.
I would like to argue that Lae’zel can very easily be read as autistic, (I really need to make a post about this someday…) and therefore she counts as well, if we’re not just talking about physical disabilities.
