“I don’t want to read this” is totally valid.

“This is disgusting to me” is totally valid.

“I don’t want to read this because it is disgusting to me” is totally valid.

“I don’t think anyone should be allowed to read or write this because it is disgusting to me” is authoritarian.

“I don’t think anyone should be allowed to read or write this because it is disgusting to me” is authoritarian.

Bro, blocking someone and then using their tag like this is, all offence, weak as fuck. Like all you had to say was, na bro I don’t promote pedo protags on this here blog, because I wholly agree with the premise of your argument given contexts (i.e., writing abusive relationships to show the evils, great; writing abusive relationships to show the romance, yikes).

This response is so, so comically shitty within the context of that tag, oh my god.

“I don’t think anyone should be allowed to read or write this because it is disgusting to me” is authoritarian.

by responding with the same thing like this over and over, it does nothing but make the other people believe that you DO condone or even support things like pedophilia or abuse. just perhaps a reason to adjust your wording to something more agreeable, maybe try forming a counter argument or something 🙂

“I don’t think anyone should be allowed to read or write this because it is disgusting to me” is authoritarian.

This is not a hard concept. Yes, saying nobody can write pedophilia or abuse IS authoritarian, no they are not the exceptions, none of your “but what abouts” are exceptions. Nonfiction needs to deal with the world as it is, which means dealing with things that exist in the world like pedophilia and abuse and other ills. Fiction is another beast entirely and is the way people have historically dealt with and explored difficult subjects in safe and consensual ways. You do not have to read it. You do not have to endorse it. You can warn all your friends that it’s gross. But you don’t get to call them a bad person if they read or write it anyway.

There is no such thing as thought crime, and stories are just thoughts in a physical media.

Censorship is always authoritarian, no matter what subject you are censoring.

And by the way, this applies to other things like Nazi apologism, blatant transphobia, and other ills. I don’t like them. I don’t want to read them. I think they are harmful. But I cannot tell people they can’t write or read them. I can only seek to educate people who do write or read them on why they are harmful and how to engage with them in a way that neutralizes the harm. Because even the most vile ideologies must be engaged with, even if just to refute and prevent those ideologies becoming mainstream. Not everyone has to do the engaging. Not everyone has to do the education. But you can’t punish the people who are for having impure thoughts or whatever.

There is no such thing a thought crime. Censorship is always authoritarian.
