But as a fictionkin, I wanted to ask: as a plural system, what is your experience with kinning? Do you consider yourselves fictives, fictionkin, or something in between? I am a singlet myself (at least I think I am?) and my own experience with kinning is very muddled. I consider myself as being those past lives/characters, but also just me.Once again, I apologize if this is in any way offensive. Feel completely free to delete this for any reason, I’m simply curious as to your perspective on the fictionkin experience.
Hi, friend! Not an offensive question at all, and we are happy to answer!
Each of our system members individually considers themselves fictionkin. We are each, in the system, a single fictionkin person. The system is made up of a collection of 25+ different individual fictionkin. (I rephrase this as many times as I do in the hope of clarity!)
This is specifically because each of our members has their own kintypes that they lived in past lives. For instance, Chris isn’t just Chris Redfield, he is also Equius Zahhak, Reiji Kido. and Nekomaru Nidai, among others.
Like most fictionkin, Chris discovered his past lives through kin questioning, and he experiences shifts, phantom sensations, memory flashes, etc.
In fact, when Chris woke up in the system when we were in our teens, it was not with a fictive identity, but rather with the same kind of personal identity that non-fictive plural members have. His fictionkin awakenings (and his use of the name Chris) came much later. He originally went by Jared in the system!
This is the same for many of our major system members, including Toko, Harry, etc, all of whom had (and still have) personal identities independent from their kintypes.
There are system members who we did originally consider fictives– or rather we used the term ‘soulbonds’ at the time– because they woke up in the system with a specific fictive identity. For instance our system member Nine originally woke up in the system as Toad from X-Men Evolution.
However, as our understanding of ourselves and our metaphysical history and the way we work and function as a system continued to evolve and develop, all of our system members eventually awoke to their own kintypes and discovered more about their past lives, and simply considering a member ‘fictive’ or ‘non-fictive’ was not a useful label any more!
