a-thousand-lives-lost-for-peace:

something i’ve seen a lot within the resident evil community is that i’ve seen many people just boil a character down to one trait or one set of ideals and never take the time to really think about them as a person, and idk it just really. irks me to see that.

Like take Jill for example, wonderfully written character, but I’ve seen a lot of people write her off as a cold character who doesn’t really give a fuck and is very standoffish, which, parts of it to an extent can be true, considering her guarded personality, but I’ve never seen a lot of people really take the time to go into her emotional side or even why she acts the way she does.

Same with someone like Chris, I’ve seen a lot of people just see him as a strong stoic soldier and doesn’t really take into account his trauma and his own emotional side.

No idea if this makes sense at all, but I just want to say – when it comes to characters, please don’t boil them down to one trait, one ideal, one-dimesional anything, just take some time to look closer at them and their character, and take into account what they’ve been through, and why or how they respond to things the way they do.

They’re nuanced, and complicated, which makes for GREAT storytelling – just take the time to take a closer look 🙂
