feels a bit weird to see posts about how “people these days move on from fandoms too fast” as an ace attorney, specifically a klapollo fan. The klapollo fandom is alive and thriving and we didn’t even get Crumbs for over 15 years

sorry to take what is possibly a joke post a bit too seriously but as someone who only got into ace attorney in the past year, i think about this a lot when i see those posts too. i’ve been surprised by how huge and active AA fandom remains – and while i think that’s partly due to re-releases and ports and stuff, i also think it kind of illustrates what those posts are talking about very well. AA as a franchise got a huge fanbase back in the day and reached a sort of critical mass that allows it to carry on more-or-less indefinitely, new fans coming into replace old ones drifting out, a pretty steady stream of fan content if nothing else, etc.

it’s a bit self-perpetuating in a way i think a lot of old larger fandoms are, and in a way that for whatever reason a lot of newer fandoms struggle to become. like by comparison, when i got into arcane at the end of 2021 it was EVERYWHERE, and within 9 months the fandom had dwindled to only the diehards, and now it’s basically absent from my social media feeds even though i’m following the same people. had AA been released for the first time in, say, 2021 would it still have any momentum a mere 3 years later or would it have peaked and then dwindled after six months?

i’ve been in miscellaneous fandoms for, literally, decades, and the longevity of some of the older fandoms VS the flash in the pan nature of new stuff is really stark. as someone who tends to settle into fandoms for a while, it’s been refreshing getting into AA and feeling like it’s a fandom with a lot of history and content and its own little ecosystems vs the frenetic mad dash of about 3-4 months of interest in anything new.

THIS.

The Resident Evil fandom is still going strong but Fire Emblem Three Houses is basically nonexistent….
