If I was a mutant in the Marvel universe I would 100% join the Brotherhood of Mutants instead of the X-men.
I mean speaking as a human, I already hate the vast majority of humans in the Marvel universe so if I was a mutant I really doubt my opinion of those morons would improve
Plus the X-men’s whole thing is “protecting a world that hates and fears them” and I literally wouldn’t chip a nail to help or protect anyone who I didn’t personally care about let alone risk my life for it
Yeah, joining Mystique’s queer crime family is a vastly superior option to whatever the fuck Xavier had going on for the longest time.
Like, there’s nothing that mandates that a minority is required to go out of their way to protect people who would rather see them dead. We’re not required to prove that we’re “one of the good ones”. Like, we just want to be able to live with dignity, and if humanity is unwilling to give us that, hecc yeah we’re going to fight for it.
The mutant allegory doesn’t always scan, but in some cases it can be really spot on, especially when it’s from a queer lense.
(It’s also why I like Emma Frost’s attitude of “I’m going to exploit the human world so that I can make sure my people want for nothing” she has going on lately.)

I should probably have made this connection earlier, but Xavier’s philosophy is basically Respectability Politics and I hate that it was presented as the “good” option.

And just like in real life, it’s achieved absolutely nothing and actively made things worse for the people who might have actually done anything worthwhile
Xavier’s bullshit is “Maybe if we all be the most boring spineless weak willed boot licking versions of ourselves we can the literal nazi’s who want to wipe us out will decide we’re Some Of The Good Ones and will leave us out of the genocide”
Honestly Xavier lost the moral “high ground” the moment the other side went from “kill every non-mutant” to “just let us live our lives in peace”
