One annoying thing I am noticing is that when people run tournaments for best gay ship, if a canon ship gets nominated then all the discourse in the tags is “this ship is canon and the other isn’t!!!” like… this isn’t the question though??? I’m a comics fan there are some canon ships in my fandom that are like “canon gay hero dates random civilian, they appear in 8 issues together, no you aren’t allowed to ship him with other people”, that is not better than non-canon ships just because it’s canon 😭
ugh yeah people’s focus on canon as if a ship being canon automatically makes it the end-all be-all is frustrating

marvel and dc have this weird obsession with letting hero/hero or villain/villain couples happen only if they’re straight or sapphic and any achillean characters are relegated to being paired with the blandest civilians imaginable
