I’m gonna say it.

It’s unhinged to assume that someone’s taste in fiction equates to what they believe is moral or good, or is something they want to see or experience in real life.

That is a bonkers assumption to make.

I’m tired of humoring people with long arguments about it when the simple fact is it is a totally fucking absurd reach to accuse someone who enjoys something in fiction of being in favor of it in real life.

I’m tired of pretending like this is a legitimate position to hold– that they should be afraid of fiction’s dire influence on a reader’s moral decay or that it’s a sign of what the author secretly wants for realsies in real life.

I love to read and write about crimes and drugs and stuff but that doesn’t mean I’m going to do those things or that I believe those things are right

some people need to ( for lack of a better word ) educate themselves and gain some common sense man

these people need to just never interact with fiction ever again if they believe depiction = endorsement ‘cause bitch they going to jail for SOMETHING out here

This is so accurate, and it is NOT limited to fics.

It’s spreading to “horror movie bad” and “gore bad” and- etc etc.

It’s all bullshit. This purity culture is spreading and people make others feel bad for enjoying/creating/seeking out things like art/shows/films/fics/etc solely because of their content.

Like I enjoy horror films/game and action films but I’m not endorsing murdering people or senseless violence. But it’s treated as if people endorse or seek or agree with these things IRL, and that is SUCH a problematic, miserable mindset to have and to SPREAD.

Fuck’s sake, art is made to be enjoyed. It is made to make you feel. It is simply made. It owes you nothing.

Fiction = endorsement is why things like the Hayes Code and the Comics Code Authority were created. It’s a kind of censorship and control over what kind of fiction can be created. We got rid of those, and for good reason. Do NOT recreate them. Also. Look them up. Do your research. Look into the history and why these things were a bad thing.
