( No Title )
–in the present moment, he had very little context why he was introducing young children with hidden talents to the beginning principles of dark magic. For many of his targets it was simple– not even requiring direct contact. A simple scroll hidden in a place they were likely to find it. A forbidden book with the marker placed at just the right spell.
For some–particularly those who had a special mark on his list– it was a little bit more involved. One girl– a precocious redhead with a very important older sister– he had watched for a while before making his move. He felt her dark emotions, tasted the miasma coming off of her. Jealousy. Jealousy and fear were her primary motivators.
A series of innocent, seemingly unconnected comments from strangers over the period of a few days soon had her convinced that the best way to compete with, and protect herself from, her older sister was to take up dark magic. He made sure to discreetly provide her parents with the enrollment papers for the local mage’s school.
Now he was watching a different girl. This one didn’t have an important sister, but she did have a mark on his list. Much like the full reason for his undertaking, Xelloss would not understand why until much later.
