Good luck! I look forward to seeing yall tear each other apart in the process

so many of us are forced to turn to a site like AO3”

Why.

It’s disgusting and terrible and degrading the morality of the nation, but getting eyes on your fanfic is more important?

You’re under the (mistaken, gross) belief that AO3 hosts CSEM, that real children are being harmed on this website, and yet, posting your fanfic and getting views and comments on it is more important than that?

Youre standing up and saying that getting your fanfic seen is more of a priority to you than not using a site that you think hosts “child porn”

You’re not being ‘forced to turn’ anywhere. This isn’t a life or death situation. You’re not a refugee, you haven’t lost a home or family or basic necessities and infrastructure.

You have other options.

Ff.net is there. Wattpad is there. Livejournal . You could host it on your own site. You could even just write it, print it, staple it together and keep it as a little book for yourself.

Oh, but the engagement you get there sucks compared to AO3, huh.

You want to post stuff on the ‘write what you want’ website, but you only want thar rule to apply to you.

You’re all hypocrites at best.

they will never make their own site because they’re too unmotivated and would rather focus all their time on banning ao3.

I don’t like everything on AO3 either. So I don’t click on the fucking fic. Or I filter it out.

Ngl if a site is supposedly hosting csem why fuck would you stay there????

“(y’all can take down the gross shit idc)” ok but you see, whoever this is, that is precisely the crux of the problem. How are you going to differentiate between mature content that’s not gross and mature content that is gross that everyone else is going to agree with? Where exactly is the line?

If you allow fic takedowns on the basis of how “gross” they are, then how are you going to stop the people who are offended by queer fics to not take those down too? That was the big problem that made ao3 a thing in the first place.

You CANNOT allow censorship on the basis of offense. Even if you manage to create the perfect sanitized internet you’ve always wanted, someone is inevitably going to decide that it’s not sanitized enough, and you’ve just helpfully put in a system that allows them to ban you because you’re offensive to them. Do you actually have a plan to stop that from happening? Do you actually have a way to make censorship stop at exactly the point you want it to be at without offending other people?

Honestly, I just feel bad for this person. Antis don’t even realize that there is a very simple solution to their problems, and they don’t do it because they want the rest of the internet to be responsible for maintaining their mental health for them. It’s dangerous and it’s egotistic as hell. I honestly shudder thinking about how many of them have been groomed because they make it so easy for people to gain their trust and take care of their problems they don’t have the maturity to solve on their own.

Besides that, I feel like antis forget that there are other alternatives that DONT allow the shit they complain about. Yes, it’s still censorship and I think it’s not cool. But at the same time, why don’t they use Fanfic.net, Wattpad, or hell, even Quotev???

And even with this point, antis still have the option to make their own version of AO3. Its open source! The coding is meant for people to be able to reuse it and understand how it works! They have the resources available to them to create their own fanfic/archive site. AND CREATE THEIR OWN RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR USERS TO FOLLOW! However, it does make me feel that if they were to do this, then they may realize how fiction cannot be defined into two boxes of being “good” or “bad”.

There are so many nuances with fanfic as soon as AUs come into play, that’s my first takeaway. Their perfect website would, ultimately, fail due to the intricacies of fiction and whose opinions their guidelines for posts would need to be based on. Is it only based on what’s depicted in cannon? Would a college smut AU be allowed if the source depicts characters as minors only? Would a vampire AU even be accepted, considering that it would include power imbalance and gore? Would smut be allowed, AT ALL, if certain kinks are depicted? Would smut just be banned entirely?

These are things I don’t think antis have even bothered to think about simply because it doesn’t fit into their narrative rhetoric. It also speaks volumes about their laziness to actually do anything other than complain and bully people imo. I wouldn’t call all anits lazy and whatnot, but I haven’t actively seen any anti actually make the effort to think about these things or to make their own space. They just want to take the easy road and say that everyone else is the problem, never questioning their own logic and critical thinking skills
