The “if you don’t want to get harassed, don’t post your weird shit online” take has to be among the ones I hate the most. You’re telling me I have to post “normal” stuff (whatever that means) or else the harassment is justified? That the one in the right is the person sending threats? That I can’t even have a space for myself online? For fuck’s sake.
The people who say this are the same people who feel justified in bullying classmates who they consider “weird.”
They’re bullies.
Anyone who thinks “normal”=“good and moral” feels justified in harming “weird” people in order to “correct” their behavior.
It’s also the same kind of attitude that people have about women having their nudes stolen and posted on the internet—if they don’t want to be harassed and shamed then they shouldn’t have taken the pictures in the first place.
Basically anyone who thinks that any other person “deserves” harassment for any reason is a bad person.
A person who thinks that others are “deserving” of punishment and that they should be the ones to punish them is a bad person.
