You know, it occurs to me that I don’t actually even know what fanfictons pro-censorship fans are objecting to when they say “it’s okay to write about it but not okay to romantcize it.”

Because in pretty much every minor x adult fic, incest fic, toxic relationship fic *I* have seen– the fact that the relationship is abnormal and fucked up and not socially okay is a big part of the conflict of the plot.

I don’t actually think I could name a taboo relationship fic I’ve seen where the theme of the piece was “actually this is normal and healthy and you should do it IRL.”

It’s because most of the work they write and read is shit.

It’s Hallmark channel nonsense, with kids-cartoon-obvious exposition, and they just map that to everything else they think is out there.

Check out the ‘proshipper dni’ tags on AO3 (yeah, I know) for proof.

okay see now I am picturing that when these people imagine what dead dove fic writers are creating, they are imagining hallmark movies but everything is evil and perverted.

A young big-city career woman goes back to visit her home town and falls in love with her folksy uncle in a cute story-book romance and leaves her banker fiance, and at the end everyone celebrates and has cake and tells her what a good life choice she’s made.

And now I’m wondering if that actually IS what they’re imagining.

Okay that’d make a great subversive horror story about a family cult though…

No, this would be fucking *terrifying*.

Especially if you alternate POV between the girl who’s being brainwashed by her family cult that she’d almost escaped (played completely straight as a cute romance with her uncle), and her frantic fiance who is trying to save her as she grows more and more distant and more deeply enmeshed into this fucked up cult.

Might actually write this.
