I think we should go easier on Tumblr staff, they don’t seem to be on board with the Matt nonsense. cyle just reblogged foone’s “Tumblr pride flag” post that included a line about “being banned from Tumblr because you’re a trans woman”, jv leaked/confirmed a bunch of info about the Midjourney deal, and zingring came back from sabbatical to confirm the information about the moderator who was taking bribes to ban trans women last year. not to mention the efforts of the ex employees, especially tinystepsforward and sreegs.
i’ve spoken to a couple of current employees today and things are (unsurprisingly) very fucking bad. actual staff have been working as quickly and as hard as they can to figure out what they can do here, especially while matt’s still on the rampage.
i can’t say more than that publicly, and a lot of things are still up in the air, but i can say that people are really trying, and that hopefully we’ll see the results of that soon.
this kind of stress is crushing, especially for trans employees carefully threading the needle between speaking up internally where they feel able to and not becoming matt’s next target and losing access to healthcare with no warning. i don’t even work there any more and i’m struggling under the weight of remembering the people who joined the company on my recommendation four or five years ago and are stuck there now.
none of them agree with matt on basically fucking any of this, even the people who aren’t unhappy about being forced to suspend sex workers.
