I saw your post about preferring books from a certain timeperiod! I’m similar with the time period I like, I’ve been reading Anne of Green Gables (1908 book) and enjoying it! Can I ask what your favorite book you’ve read is?
Anne of Green Gables is so charming! You have very good taste!
I think choosing one favorite book would be like choosing a favorite child– I simply cannot! So here are a few of my favorites:
Children’s lit:
- The Doctor Dolittle series by Hugh Lofting
- The Wizard of Oz series by L Fank Baum– top pick The Marvelous Land of Oz
- Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
Adult lit:
Heralds of Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey– top pick “Last Herald Mage” (exceptionally queer and poly 1980s fantasy)
The Beglariad by David Eddings (A snarky 1980s take on the classic heroes journey)
A Barnstormer in Oz by Philip Jose Farmer (this is an adult Oz sequel by a famous 70s/80s sci-fi writer)
The Bunny & Raffles stories by EW Hornung (stories of queer thieves by a contemporary of Arthur Conan Doyle)
Any of John Grisham’s 80s or 90s lawyer novels– I am not immune to trash XD
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens– yes, honestly.
The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux– technically this novel is objectively terribly written but I don’t care.
I… could keep going. But I’ll stop here.
ETA: Wait, no, I’ll add one more.
Ender’s Game.
