Three things before we begin.

  1. We’re not in the MHA fandom specifically
  2. we actually write more fanfic than we read these days
  3. we’re going to make some sweeping generalizations people won’t like here, and we want to be be really clear that they ARE generalizations and they by no means always apply.

Alright, here are some things you can do.

When you search for fic about a specific character, what you can do is (after you’ve narrowed down the tags you want to include/exclude) go down to the bottom of the filter bar and type “summary: bakugo” where it says search within results.

This will give you fic that includes Bakugo in the summary of the fic, which means you’ll directly cut out any fic that doesn’t have a heavy focus on the character you’re looking for.

Next, when you scroll through fic– look for the fics with the fewest tags. You want to avoid fics that have a ton of tags listing every possible trope and/or every possible content warning.

Fics with fewer tags are generally by stronger writers who are more confident in their work standing on its own, and thus will be writing more nuanced characters in general.

I don’t have any specific tags for you to look FOR although morally ambiguous character might or might not be useful for you.

thank you it’s been suffering trying to find fics that show the boy in a way that’s more actually accurate to canon

people are free to villainize him we just don’t Do That Here

i might just start writing some more of my own fic to try and add to the morally dubious character category tbfh

In that case you might also try canon typical behavior tag.

But we’re in a very similar position where, when a piece of fiction is important to us, we generally end up writing the fic that we want to see in the world.
