I don’t know if this is just me, but did anyone else end up shipping characters in their English class literature?I began shipping two characters in A doll’s house together because they hit all of the things I like about femslash ships (secrets, tight bond, childhood friends!!!) and I want to see if anyone else shipped them. This is on anon because I am a little bit embarrassed about it, and the fact it’s been two-three years since I began shipping them where I occasionally think about them as a pair even if I’m not as into the play as I used to be
Our own high school english class did Romeo & Juliet one semester, and our immediate friend group ended up taking characters and role-playing as them in between classes and at lunch/after school for months the same way we did with Yu Gi Oh characters.
We were Benvolio. So hey– at least we lived. 😂
But yes– I think many people who instinctively engage with fiction in fandom type ways definitely engage with literature class fiction in the same way!
My junior year high school English teacher encouraged it! He was like: “If you see it, give me the analysis! Tell me why you want that relationship to happen in story or why it would be interesting.”
(He wrote a thesis on why Nick and Gatsby should have gotten together in The Great Gatsby.)
Nick and Gatsby 😭😭😭😭
