You, and the pro-censorship fans like you are making a world where it is easier for real child molesters to hide, by normalizing accusations of pedophilia and creating a world where it is common place to be falsely accused of being a pedophile for no reason.
Abuse thrives in silence. When you make pedophilia a crime so disgusting and so taboo that you aren’t even allowed to write fiction about it, you create a world where real child molestation becomes a hush-hush topic, so now nobody can talk about it or learn the warning signs.
When you equate fictional crimes with real crimes, you are creating a world where talking about abuse is worse than actually abusing someone.
What you’re doing right now is something called performative activism. You attack people who write fanfiction, not because you want to actually go through the difficult process of protecting real children, but because you want to be able to attack someone and then pat yourself on the back for being such a good person when someone you know could be grooming a child right now and you would never know because they tell you they only read and write “pure” fiction.
Stop making it easy for real predators to hide. Stop attacking people who are doing nothing wrong. You aren’t actually doing anything to protect anyone when you water down the word “pedophile” until it means nothing. It doesn’t make you an activist, it makes you an asshole. Fuck off, anon.
🔴 This has also made us realize that we haven’t heard or read the word “pervert” in online spaces in a very long time, we have only heard people being called pedos. They chose the word that no one wants to playfully claim, because it is easier to dehumanize them with.

The word “freak” is often used in place of pervert, often alongside pedophile. The goal appears to be to make people think “not normal = freak = pedophile”, but the actual result tends to be that people go, “freak + pedo = meaningless buzzwords = this person is probably fine”, which helps abusers hide in plain sight by going, “oh, they called me that over [small thing here], not because I actually am!”
The work they’ve done to normalize these words is really astounding. But what I want to focus on is also this: y’all ever notice they call queer people these things way, way more than cishetallo people? They’ve revived the anti-queer rhetoric of the 50’s and 60’s, automatically assuming every queer person online is a threat to children, and they’ll say it even if they’re queer themselves.
This is the poison they drink hoping it hurts you. Because ultimately this is only going to further the narrative queers are dangerous, which the right wing will love, during an era where Rebublicans have talked about wanting to end democracy, they’ve laid out their plans to turn the US into an authoritarian state, and they’ve said they wanted to end trans healthcare for everyone.
And instead of voting blue, spreading any of those facts or otherwise trying to protect themselves, these people sit around going, “You know who has it too easy? Those fucking queers!” and assume that when all this comes to pass, they’ll have proven themselves one of the ‘good ones’ that they imagine will be spared.
You will not be, anon. Because you’re just as freaky to them as the most perverted pervert on Earth.
