This topic has been covered a fair amount over the years, but Naoto REALLY should’ve been written as trans. Their character arc uses clear trans allegory and mirrors what a lot of trans men have to go through.I didn’t realize I was nonbinary when I played Persona 4 Golden back in high school, but Naoto’s gender-queerness made them incredibly intriguing and relatable to me. It’s a shame that it was just queer baiting used to make the game seem more provocative. Atlus loves to use queer elements while still treating their queer fans like crap.
