Don’t know if this has been asked but I need to know if you guys are a fan of Bioshock because it seems like it would be RIGHT up your alley. Also for the record Bioshock Infinite and Burial at Sea don’t exist. Trust me.
My dear sweet, beloved friend. 😭
This is going to be hard to hear.
We’re huge fans of the whole Bioshock series… and Bioshock Infinite is our favorite. 😅😅😅 Sorry!!
Love the original though, and it stands very well on it’s own!!
HOW?????? GENUINELY HOW
I don’t mind the gameplay and I will defend Elizabeth to my dying breath but HOW?????
Like Infinite has its moments. It really does. The soundtrack is amazing as usual for Bioshock, the gunplay is pretty satisfying, the vigors are fun and unique. I liked the Comstock House sequence and Daisy’s death scene, I liked the whole sequence with Lady Comstock and Emporia, but for everything good in the game there’s like two more horrible things.
I could go on and on about how they did Daisy dirty in so many ways and Elizabeth too. How Songbird was so underutilized, how disgustingly apathetic and stupid Booker is, how Rapture was shoehorned in at the end, and how Burial at Sea fucked up the franchise SO badly. But I am extremely biased (I am a Big Sister kinnie so naturally I’m gonna defend BS 2 with everything in me).
Genuinely though what makes Infinite your favorite??? I’m curious, especially given how staunch and passionate you guys are about your beliefs, I thought you’d hate Infinite for sure!
Timeloops and alternate universes and loosing the grasp that you have on yourself, and looking at all the evil that you could have done under slightly different circumstances– are just very important themes to us personally 🤷😭
I’m definitely not saying its a better game, or a more well-constructed story than Bioshock 1– it’s not, it’s definitely worse put together in every way.
We’re just deeply hooked by the Themes.
The Lutece twins stab us in the heart especially.
Also yeah the soundtrack’s a banger.
But it’s very much a “i didn’t say it was good, I said I liked it” situation. XD It just happens to speak to us on a more personal level than Bioshock 1 does.
Agree with you about Burial at Sea though.
Oh thank god. I totally get that. Infinite is a fine game in terms of its gameplay (except the two gun system I HATE IT) and yeah the themes are quite interesting. Though I’d recommend taking a look at the concept art, because the cutting room floor has so many treasures that didn’t make it in the game!
And on a personal note, Idk if you could relate to it the way I did, but if you like ‘you could have turned out like this if things had been slightly different. Don’t forget it.’, then I have to bring up the Jack the Ripper campaign from Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. I was able to get that from it due to my personal trauma, and it fucked me up so hard I just had to stare at the screen for an hour or two while I processed the feels. Genuinely I think about the JTR DLC ALL THE DAMN TIME. It lives in my brain. Go play it.
Also the Luteces were unironically the best part of Infinite. Sorry Liz, I love you to death but the Luteces have the perfect mix of ‘old friends who act like a bickering old married couple’ and ‘siblings who can’t not pick on each other all the time forever’ and it’s perfect.
Yeah, we have seen the concept art and it really feels like the game got cut to ribbons over the years! I remember following the development and the early stuff is very divorced from what we ended up with.
I have to say in terms of aesthetics, I really like Bioshock 1 a LOT more than Infinite– Rapture’s art deco/20s vibes are so god damned good. I also really like the randian critique in B1, and it really feels like a lot of the “politics” in Bioshock Infinite were kind of tacked on because Bioshock has to be a story that “says something.”
The Luteces were absolutely genuinely the best part of the game, I will always love them so much. 😭😭
We gotta get our partner to finish AC Syndicate some time– we ended up stopping midway through because we got distracted or something.
