Seeing people in *fandom* of all places now– in the nerdy weirdo hobby for rejects and freaks-– seeing people in fandom reject “being weird” and embrace and glorify “being normal” causes me actual physical literal pain.

In my day in fandom we were freaks and weirdos and we were fucking proud of it. What the fuck are you normies doing here??

This is kinda how I feel with this new generation of anime lovers, where I’m from when I started watching anime as a teenager the simple fact of liking anime (of any kind) made you a weirdo and that’s why people adopted the “Otaku” label to say “yeah I’m weird so what”.

Now watching anime is mainstream, but there’s still a stigma against people who do it “the wrong way” and we circle the otaku label all the way to being derogatory again, even in anime circles. Wow you’re a normal dude who likes the anime of the season? So interesting… (not really)

I miss when being weird was a good thing.
