I have never heard of or considered this pairing. 🤔
If I came across it in the wild I would assume that either:
a) the shipper was a robot lover first and an NGE fan second
b) it was a deliberately weird or out there rarepair to stretch their creative muscles
or
c) it was the result of months of rp where the plot had gone off the rails and they were now in too deep.
