A white marble statue of Superman and Batman as they mimic Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam." Batman lies, hand extended toward Superman's chest as he stands to reveal the costume beneath his shirt. ALT
About the work:
Material: Marble
In the large marble, Modern Heroes, we can all recognize Batman and Superman.
I spent some formative years in Rome in my youth and I remember being in awe of the amazing art disseminated throughout the city.
I still feel that admiration and eventually, a few years ago, I found the opportunity to combine that classicism with contemporary issues and my style of art.
I made MODERN HEROES then as my support to the gay community and their struggle for gay rights and equal rights
Ironically the ambiguity of this work is something that has been present in classical sculpture forever. But no one expects to see them involved in an openly gay relationship. …
The latter stretches out an admiring hand to touch Superman, the gesture is a reference to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling. My sculpture is a celebration of changes in contemporary society.
