Nah, I agree with you, there should be a separation between canon related content and fanon related content. And that Headcanons aren’t actual canon and cannot be imposed onto others. I remember when my partner had to leave the fandom bc they didn’t think that Apollo was trans or bc they hced Miles as aroace. The amount of hate and threats they got just bc they didn’t abide with the popular fanon material was wild.
Yeah, anon that is the actual problem. There’s nothing wrong with headcanons– it’s pushing them on other people who don’t share them and treating them like they’re canon, and treating people who don’t share popular headcanons like they’re scum that’s the problem.
I’m sorry your partner went through that. I hope together we can all build a fandom that is more welcoming and open for fans of all kinds to enjoy.
