Is Blackmadhi healthy?

It’s something I have been wondering for a while. Like, it’s hot, they look great, got parallels in their backstories. But like, are they good for each other?
I feel like the ship is a lot of angry kisses and ‘I hate you but still wanna fuck you’. And sure, I get it, that is hot, but that’s not healthy.
I don’t wanna start any shit, but I feel like more people should say: The ‘I love to hate you’ vibe isn’t a healthy one.

Maybe there is something there I am not seeing, but as far as I can tell they aren’t actually good for each other.

I don’t know. If you have a different perspective I would love to hear it.

Must a ship be good for one another to be sexy and exciting to ship? It may or may not be healthy, but it can make for a fun pairing in fic and art.

I don’t think it’s necessary for a ship to be ideal or desirable to have in real life for it to be fun in fandom, although you might disagree!

@the-bar-sinister

No, you’re totally valid, it’s a totally valid ship. It’s a good ship, very sexy, I see why people like it, hell I like it.
I am wondering if there was something I was missing, some angle that made it healthier, or perspective I wasn’t getting.
Also, I feel like it should said, you know? Not everyone all the time, but someone should say it at some point.

Does that make sense?

That absolutely makes sense!

It seems like these days in fandom, the *default* assumption when you see a pairing being shipped is that the shipper believes that the pairing is healthy. I think it’s kind of interesting and odd that we’ve gotten to that place, because it didn’t used to be the assumption at all!

So these days I can definitely see taking a minute to take stock and ask ‘okay what do we actually feel about the interactions these characters have’!

I’m personally someone who thinks shipping rough and difficult relationships is a lot of fun, so this is a conversation that I personally like having!

Of course there are some people who *will* feel challenged by or criticized by any assumption that their ship is not perfectly healthy– which is unfortunate.

Its a shame so often that ship discussions turn into ship arguments.

I am so very grateful this isn’t an argument.
I want it to be clear I support shipping challenging ships, I just happen to have a ship I like better than Blackmadhi.
Also glad to see that I’m not missing something you know? Silly as it sounds I wanted to be sure I and getting this correctly.

To use another ship as an example: Blackbright, there are a LOT of ways to ship Blackbright, all compelling, but some way healthier than others.
Personally, I ship Blackbirght like this: Fullbright lives, is found, and they start their relationship After Simon is out of jail and they are no longer a guard and a prisoner.
But I totally get it if you ship Blackbright differently, maybe they do get together as guard and prisoner so the power dynamics are questionable at best. That is compelling.

Obviously, Blackbright and Blackmadhi are very different, Blackmadhi doesn’t run into power dynamics, etc. etc. But you get the idea.

Oh, before I close out I should say there is one bit of beef I do have with Blackmadhi. It is not forgivable. You should have called it Nyquill/Nahquil.
Shame on all of you.

Nyquill/Nahquill!! 🤣🤣🤣 yes you are so right! Bring back the funny ship names, I miss them!

I am a multishipper/polyshipper so I love seeing potential in lots of different pairings even if they are not my primary ships.

Personally I also ship Blackbright over Blackmadhi. I do love the idea that Fulbright loves and they get together, but usually I ship them in a more canon context where they had a relationship while Simon was still a prisoner, and I also ship Phantomquill because i love the complexity of it! I actually just finished a long fic where “the Phantom” is actually possessed by Bobby Fulbright’s real ghost all along…

But while I ship Blackbright I can also see Blackmadhi being a fun ship and sort of ship it secondarily. They don’t get a lot of on-screen time one another in canon, so I don’t really have an opinion on how they would interact, although they are both fairly abrasive people so I do feel like they might bicker a lot.

I just love all kinds of ships and exploring them in different ways! 💖
