It’s pretty much the same, so I’ll just focus on what I wanted to analyze here: Edgeworth’s last words.
What he says in Japanese is very vague. It’s literally ‘will be waiting… Wright.’ without subject because in Japanese, it’s usually omitted.
So he could be speaking for the whole group, or just himself. That little pause before saying Wright’s name is… quite interesting, though. In English it would have been translated as either ‘We’ll be waiting’ or ‘I’ll be waiting’. Which are both weird sounding (the first too emotionless, the second too revealing) so I think they did well here, because a jab for his supposed and to-be-expected lateness is more Edgeworth-like here instead of an emotionless ‘we’ll be waiting’. It’s also more jokey, lighthearted, and bantery sounding? It sounds like he’s looking forward to celebrating with him (so, don’t be late), which was the point of the original JP as well I believe.
I know it sounds like a throwaway line and maybe I’m overanalyzing it but Edgeworth is generally subtle with how he shows his feelings in general. He doesn’t know how to show his appreciation to people and he always does so in a roundabout way, even with the whole ‘whoop’ thing you can see he tries very hard – resorts to trying to imitate Gumshoe of all people – but doesn’t quite get his feelings across.
Fun fact:
After 1-4 Edgeworth can’t join their celebratory dinner because he’s still held at the detention center, in 1-5 he straight up runs away after the trial (although there isn’t a celebration, but if there had been, he wouldn’t have gone), in 2-4 he goes with them to the Gatewater but leaves to run after Franziska. But now… he can finally go with them (and also note how Franziska is there as well) and properly celebrate together, and he’s looking forward to it.
And that’s because they can finally have a celebratory dinner together, and no one is running away or is left behind this time.
