“I’m inventing a new form of justice, Lana. The kind we’ve been living with for the past decades hasn’t served us well.”

“No, it’s been a breeding ground for corruption and cruelty…and problems like the Blackquill case and its false convictions. I agree there’s vast need for a change.”

She took a bite before washing it down with coffee. A sweet, pervading taste washed down with something hot and bitter. “Your new form of justice…it involves giving second degree murderers and convicted conspirators and forgers a second chance?”

"It does,” Miles nodded. “It involves giving those who have done wrong the chance to do good– to balance out the scales of justice more meaningfully than by simply suffering in penance.”
