Ema was cleaning her desk out to move her things to her new forensics office when a shadow fell over her from behind.

“I heard the good news, fraulein. Do I get to celebrate with you?”

The box of her desk toys and old forensics equipment from the old days jostled in her hands with her half turn.

“If it isn’t the glimmerous fop himself.” Despite the old barb she couldn’t keep the huge smile from her face. “I haven’t had the chance to break out the booze, so I dunno how much of a celebration it’ll be till I get this crap put away.”

“Let me help then, ja?” He scooped the box out of her arms without asking. “Shovel it in, and then the booze is on me. I imagine your pay bump hasn’t kicked in yet.”

Klavier favored her with a teasing grin, and tossed his hair. He’d changed very little over the last year and a half— the most distinctive difference was the lack of his old Gavinners medallion, and the fact that he kept his hair shaved on the sides.

She couldn’t help but feel the affectionate swell as he scooped it out of her arms, even as she playfully grumbled.

“Yeah yeah…I’m never one to say no to free booze. Especially from a fancy pants rockstar prosecutor.” She grinned. “Means less cash in your flashy jewelry budget, which saves MY eyes.”

She knew why both major changes had hit…the medallion because his band had fallen apart, and the hair–

Well. It was obvious why he changed his hair. While he’d stayed broadly the same, so had she, the biggest difference being the forensics band now gracing her arm, and her newfound love of high heels.

“I wouldn’t want to dazzle you too badly, fraulein! You’d need to get prescription lenses in those rose tinted glasses of yours.” He held the box under one arm as he gathered up the last of her belongings on the desk. “Now! Show me where to bring this, and then I’ll show you a good time, ja?”

Ema laughed, waving her hand towards the desk. “Come on, fop.”

It didn’t take long. The forensics offices were in the same building after all, just a few floors away and in a nicer part of the precinct building.

Soon enough it was dropped on the pile of her other boxes and Ema was excitedly hopping from foot to foot. She couldn’t help it…

This was the first big moment of happiness in her career.

Klavier set the box down and looked around the small office with as bright and glimmerous a smile as she’d ever seen on him.

“You really made it, fraulein. This office is almost as big as mine, ja?” It absolutely was not– but Ema knew that the exaggeration was a mark of support, and not meant to be a jab.

Ema flushed, puffing out her cheeks a little as she stomped up to loop her arm around his– and then she laughed.

“Yeah, you know what? It is. Maybe I’ll buy one of your stupid fancy chairs for it too.” She grinned up at him. “it took way too long but here we are.”

Now that they were out of sight of the rest of the precinct, Klavier leaned down and kissed her hair. “Some things are worth waiting for, ja? You never know when good things are right around the corner. I’ll make the chair an office warming present, fraulein.”

Ema flushed, leaning against him before her arm slipped around his waist.

“You’re a peach, Gavin.” she looked up at him with pink-tinted cheeks and kissed his chin back. she snickered impishly. “Mayyybe when you do— we can fool around in here, instead of in your fucking gaudy office all the time.”

Klavier grinned and cupped her cheek with his hand. His blue eyes sparkled as he held her close. “I was just thinking the same thing, liebchen. Need to break the place in.”

Ema turned a deeper red with a huff, rubbing her face gently against his hand.

“Of course you were, perv.” As if she wasn’t just as much as he was. “You’re lucky, I agree with you.”

He scooped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her toward the door.

“Oh, liebchen, you say that like I don’t know just how lucky I am. Come on, let me show you with my wallet just how impressed I am by all your amazing qualities. And then you can put up with some more of my perverted nature.”

“Put up with—”

She was in a good mood– a great mood. The best mood even. A good enough mood to wrap her arms around her boyfriend’s shoulders and kiss him firmly on the lips just before they left the door. “You’d absolutely fucking better. We’re celebrating my dream here, Klavvy, we’d better make tonight the best night ever!”
