me (british) and my friend (american) realized that we have different interpretations of “to wash up” in britain it means to do the dishes, but in america it means to clean yourself we found it out during a roleplay where I was very confused as to why she was telling toddler characters to do the dishes lol
And “go put on your pants”, means something different in America and Britain as well. 🤣
Back in The Day, a certain extremely popular fanfiction forum hub for a certain extremely popular British novel series had a board specifically dedicated to making sure the right Britishisms were in your fic, and the Americanisms were out of it.
It was referred to as “britpicking” (as a play on nitpicking).
