I’m mean, we’re not the arbiter of who is or isn’t ‘allowed’ to do anything.

But yeah its really hypocritical and indicative of cognitive dissonance for them to like those characters.

I think the thing is that antis who like what feels like objectively bad characters- even characters who have traits in common with unliked characters- those antis truly believe they’re participating in fandom the “right” way.

I once knew an anti who insisted the First Order (Star Wars) were actual Space Nazis and romanticizing them was bad and automatically made you a nazi… but she wrote for and shipped with Kylo Ren. Because, she argued, he’s not actually part of the First Order (despite him becoming the Supreme Leader of the First Order).

I’ve also seen an anti who insisted it’s wrong to ship Michael Myers/Laurie Strode even IF they aren’t related because it’s attacker/victim… and selfships with him in ways where he’s abusing them. And said they did so “responsibly.”

It’s impossible to gotcha antis, they just refuse to see the hypocrisy.

Yup.
