Thinking about a very specific trope that should be used way more often:
Whumpee throws a punch and Whumper catches it. Then there’s that moment- a brief millisecond- in which they meet each other’s eyes. Whumpee pales, Whumper smirks. And for that brief moment, there is nothing more terrifying than the thought of what Whumper is about to do next.
Maybe Whumper breaks Whumpee’s hand. Maybe they flip Whumpee across the room. Maybe they just give Whumpee a look, a look that says “Are you sure you want to play this game?” Before releasing their hand altogether.
Who knows? Certainly not Whumpee, and that’s what scares them.
