best thing a writer can do is make it clear that it’s not ok many ppl lack intelligence to part right from wrong so try and help them every author: tag your shit

Somebody reblogged our post from the other day and tagged it with this.

And yes, tag your shit, that part is very correct and very important.

But it is not your job as a fiction writer to educate anybody.

Unless you are specifically writing material to be educational you do not have any kind of responsibility to educate your audience on what is and isn’t moral behavior.

It is not your job to educate your audience on morality.

You do not have an obligation to tell your audience that bad things are bad.

Fiction is not moral education.

see i do get the tag’s point, but not all works are meant to be educational.

of course a warning is good, like “hey murder is bad!” or something, or making it clear sometimes in an authors note or smth that a character isn’t good or something isn’t supposed to be looked up to in the writing, but like…

there are times when you, a reader, do need to pick and choose your own morals and read content and think about it critically. if you struggle with right from wrong, that’s up to YOU to realize and go “oh shit i should figure out my morals and where i stand on things” and then do that.

random people do not need to educate you on what YOUR morals should be.
