One of the unfortunate consequences of anti bullshit I’ve noticed is a wave of original fiction that is so afraid to take any kind of risks lest they be deemed “problematic” that every character feels extremely flat and boring or else incredibly inconsistent and the story has little to no conflict. I’ve seen it in podcasts and books the most, and it’s incredibly frustrating to see people with otherwise good ideas and an obvious passion become so scared of potential backlash that they’re afraid to actually tell a story and instead create the most generic and unoffensive narrative they can. It has no heart or soul and it genuinely breaks my heart.

Like “healthy” cooking; you take out the salt and the spice and the fat and the carbs… What bland fare are you left with?
