I hate how the “purity culture” tag is polluted with proshippers complaining about people not liking their stories filled with incest and rape.
Purity culture isn’t just “I’m disgusted by NSFW content”. Purity culture goes far back, far before fandoms let alone shipping discourse was a thing. It’s filled with slut-shaming, gender essentialism, rape apologism and absistance-only culture that still affects people, especially women, today.
Stop using it as a fandom term without knowing the context around it.
“Purity culture” is exactly being disgusted by NSFW content.
Why do you think shaming people for the fiction that they like isn’t a significant part of slut shaming, victim-blaming, abstinence only culture?
