Hey, I know what you’re proship, and I’m not anti at all(I’m not bulling others because of their preferences about fictional characters’ relationship, I guess, that’s mean being proship, right), just curious if it’s considered “problematic” that my characters have been liking each other since one of them was 13 and the other 17, but started dating when the youngest turned 18. I know it’s strange to asking you about this, it’s just that sometimes my conscience still torments me. Look, I’m going to be real with you here, and I mean this in the best way possible, but I really don’t see how that could be pedophilia imo. First, of all, they are fictional characters and you have no reason to hold up your real-life morals when you create their relationship. Their relationship can be as problematic as you want or as unproblematic as you want, they’re your characters and you can do whatever with them. If people want to harass you for that, then that’s not your fault. It’s not like they are real people, where a relationship like that could be considered harmful or even pedophilic. But as you stated, they didn’t start dating until their youngest was 18, so there’s no way that could be considered pedophilia even if the relationship was between real-world people. Pedophilia, as a word that when used broadly and not to define a specific age range of attraction, means that someone is attracted to minors. 18 is not a minor. I know damn well that stupid people would call it pedophilia, but they are doing nothing but watering down a very serious term. It’s an age gap, but not every age-gap relationship is pedophilic.
I hate that this is an actual fear that you have, anon /gen. You should feel free to do whatever you want in fiction imo, and don’t let puritanical people tell you what you should or should not create. Because that’s where your guilt is stemming from, most likely.
