Can you explain to me what being a proshipper is from YOUR perspective, not the most common belief that they’re predatory.
The definition of proship being short for ‘problematic shipper’ or a synonym for ‘pedophile’ is misinformation spread by antishippers. I’m not saying that people that call themselves proship can’t be predatory, as there are bad apples in every bunch.
I’d personally define it as ‘I think what you enjoy in fiction doesn’t equal your IRL morals’. Some examples: I read a lot of horror, but I do not consent to being murdered or chased by a serial killer. The same applies to problematic shipping. My main type of problematic ship I enjoy is ‘mutually toxic’, but I have no plans or desire to abuse a partner. I won’t read a trashy romance novel and stop valuing consent and my partner’s feelings.
I’d argue that while some people who write/read [insert dark fic trope of your choosing] are fine with that IRL, however not everyone who will do that kind of shit IRL writes/reads [dark fic trope of your choosing]. I don’t think there is a correlation.
Mutuals, feel free to add to this if you’d like. 🙂
